Rami’s Snow Day by Candace Rowe is an exceptional children’s picture book that depicts Rami and his family taking in the sights, sounds, and play of a snowy fun-filled day. The book has an almost sing-song-like rhyme scheme throughout that lifts the spirits and puts a smile on your face, bigger and brighter with each page turned. The exquisite artwork that accompanies the storyline is breathtaking. Candace Rowe’s proficiency with the medium of watercolor astounds as each image looks like it could easily be hanging in a gallery for the world to see. My personal favorite is the depiction of the fireplace.
Candace Rowe’s Rami’s Snow Day captures and embodies what a snow day meant to me as a child growing up, with the possible exception of the warm cup of hot cocoa that I was always after. After reviewing many children’s picture books over the past five years, I can say with all certainty that this is at the top of the list for illustrations. Her artistic work and simplistic yet poignant narrative will keep you and your child coming back many times to re-read this book. It is truly a stirring story that will open your heart and mind to your memories, and to the new memories that you are in the process of making or will someday make with your children, or perhaps a fur child or two. Everybody will enjoy this story.
