As You Watch Over Me by Julie Awerkamp and Holly Andreason is a touching and therapeutic book for children who have experienced loss. Grief is hard to navigate, and even harder for a child. The physical change of having someone missing is immediate. The lingering sense of loss is something that takes time and guidance for children to be able to find their way through it all. This book offers encouragement, understanding, and some tangible and organic ways to help children heal as they deal with the ups and downs of the grieving process. Helping a child understand the different emotions that may come, and realizing these are normal, is comforting and offers hope that things can be okay again.

As You Watch Over Me by Julie Awerkamp and Holly Andreason presents parents with a tool to open the dialog of healing and walk through grief with their child. This resource is designed and presented for children to understand different phases of grief and ways to deal with it. Julie Awerkamp and Holly Andreason encourage the most important medium, communication between a loving family and friends. This helps children to feel comfortable with their sudden and unusual feelings and encourages them to talk about things. The imagery by illustrator Jesi Yap makes this book much more accessible to children with beautiful artwork that invites a child to sit and look through the story. Once the story has been read, it can be reread through the artwork alone for those too young to read by themselves.
