My love for magical creatures started when I was in Elementary school and began collecting Pokemon cards. Holding those special cards with amazing drawings of various creatures was just the best. As I opened each mystery pack and discovered which creatures lay inside, I felt like a real explorer discovering something new and exciting. I also learned about the abilities and evolution of the Pokemon, which fueled my interest and imagination.
Sometime during my older years in school, I took a class about mythology. Learning about the myths of different cultures and the creatures in those myths really piqued my curiosity. My love for movies and video games only solidified my interest in magical creatures even more as I grew.
You may be thinking, “Why are magical creatures so awesome?” Well, the list below includes just a few of the many reasons I think they are special, and I will spend time discussing each of them.

★ They can teach us about ourselves.
★ They can be a lot of fun.
The Beauty of Magical Creatures
Magical creatures have been a part of the human imagination for centuries. They appear in folklore, mythology, and literature from all over the world. From dragons to unicorns to mandrakes, these creatures capture our imaginations with their beauty, power, and mystery.
One of the things that makes magical creatures so special is their interesting physical characteristics. They come in all shapes and sizes, with a wide variety of colors and patterns. Some magical creatures are even bioluminescent, meaning they can glow in the dark. No matter what their appearance, magical creatures are always a feast for the eyes. They remind us that the world is a magical place, full of wonder, charm, and possibility.
The Abilities of Magical Creatures
Mythical creatures are fascinating. They are unlike anything we see in the real world, and their unique abilities and appearances make them endlessly intriguing. Some magical creatures can fly, some can breathe fire, and some can even teleport. These special qualities make them almost seem like superheroes. They can inspire us to dream big and believe in the impossible.
In my books, Thaddeus Thayn’s Guide to Unicorns and Guide to Dragons, Thaddeus discovers some unusual abilities that these elusive magical creatures have. For instance: most unicorn horns have the power to heal, but the Priscorn’s horn makes rainbow bridges to travel on. When studying dragons, Thaddeus learns that Gardenbacks eat seeds and grow beautiful plants on their backs. And Waxmelts sleep in wax cocoons stuck high up in trees and use their candle tails to break free.
The Lessons of Magical Creatures
Magical creatures can also teach us a lot about ourselves. They can help us to explore our hopes, dreams, and fears. They can also teach us the importance of courage, compassion, and friendship.
For example, the unicorn is a creature of hope and purity. It represents our dreams and desire for a better world. On the other hand, the dragon is a creature of power and strength. It represents courage and our ability to overcome challenges. The phoenix symbolizes rebirth and renewal, representing our ability to rise from the ashes and start over.
In Guide to Dragons, the Bubblebeam is a very strong and powerful dragon. However, it chooses not to engage in any fights but to be friendly to the others it may encounter. The lesson we can learn from this dragon is that just because we can do something to someone doesn’t mean we should. It’s better to be a peacemaker and spread kindness toward others with our actions.
The Fun of Magical Creatures
Not only are magical creatures wonderful and educational, but they can also be a lot of fun. They can provide us with hours of entertainment, whether we are reading stories that teach us more about them, watching movies or shows about them, or playing with them in video games.
One good example of the enjoyment we can have with these creatures is found in the Harry Potter series. Both the books and movies are full of fascinating creatures, from the friendly house-elves to the dangerous Dementors. These creatures add a sense of excitement and adventure to the story, and they help to make the world of Harry Potter feel real and believable.
Similarly, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy features many wonderful but also some nasty creatures, such as the elves, dwarves, hobbits, orcs, and giant spiders. These creatures create a rich and detailed world full of wonder and adventure.
Another example includes the books and animated series, Hilda. It includes some magical creatures we all have heard of before such as trolls and giants but also adds some fun new ones like deer-foxes and Nisse. This inclusion of new creatures brings even more magic and mystery to the story of Hilda.
Magical creatures are a wonderful part of folklore and mythology. They also help power our imaginations and creativity. They are fascinating, educational, and fun. They can inspire us to dream big and to think outside the box. So next time you encounter a magical creature, whether it be through reading a book, watching a show, or playing a video game, take a moment to appreciate its beauty, abilities, and lessons. You might just be surprised at how much you can learn from it.
